How it all began…

It’s not wrong to say that the Volkwasgon Type II was the company’s first ever-modern car. The Type III was one of the most sought after vehicles in the 60’s. Due to the international popularity of the of the Type I, Beetle car and the Type II, Microbus, Volkswagon Type III didn’t need much publicity, it was a born sensation!

The VW Type III was all about the top-notch engineering of Volkswagen and high quality it was known for. VW Type III was spacious, road-friendly and has a modern style that was unique. The first ever VW III was launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1961.

The Type III reached the American and European markets earlier than the other parts of the world. The 1.5 litre engine VW III came in two models one was a two-door style notchback while the other was a station wagon square back. Similar to the Beetle, Volkswagen decided to make changes to these models too along the way. The Twin Solex carburetors were added to the 1964-65 model, and the 1966 model added discs instead of the drum brakes. Two years later, it became the first in the world as the mass produced economy car. Up until 1973, the VWIII went through different upgrades. VW moved away from the standard Beetle type interior for the Type III. This was another successful model by the VW and more than 2.6 million cars were produced over the years.
