Popular Japanese Sports cars

Japan has given the world some of the greatest cars. Japanese cars have amazing engineering standard, they’re quiet and reliable. Japanese super cars have a different glow altogether and it’s not easy choosing the most popular ones. Japanese cars can very well go neck to neck with European sports cars and there’s no two word about it!

Here are some of the most loved sports cars Japan has introduced over the last few decades.

Mazda RX-7 Series 8
The Mazda RX-7 was birthed in 1978; the 3rd generation car of its range was launch in the early 90’s. This was quite a game changer in the sports coupe category. The RX-7 Series 8 that was produced from 1996 – 98 was powered by a twin turbo engine and it created 276 horsepower. The car could go from zero to 100kph within five second. At the time Mazda really took the market by storm and they managed to retain this utter brilliance for two decades and counting.

Toyota 2000GT
The Toyota 200GT is considered Japan’s first serious attempt at making a kickass sports car. And unsurprisingly it became a huge success. In the 60’s Japanese cars were considered, practical and reliable but they were never regarded for their flair or speed. Toyota 2000GT managed to break loose from the conventional perception that Japanese cars were simply safe and comfortable. It was kept in line with the famous Porsche 911 at the time garnering it even more fame than the Japanese automaker would have imagined. At the time it was quite expensive but fast-forward five decades, its still one of the most sought after supercars in the Japanese auto auctions.

Honda NSX
Honda NSX, the powerful supercar filled with racing technology was another breakthrough in the racing car market in the world. Honda developed the NSX as the cheaper, faster and cooler version of the Ferrari 328. The NSX’s engine has a cockpit that was inspired by a F16 fighter jet. It was the first car to have been produced with electric power steering and the body was built completely of aluminum. NSX was a super fast car and its production lasted from 1990 to 2005. Today’s it’s a much-loved collector’s item in the Japanese used vehicles market.

Nissan Skyline GT-R
The first Nissan Skyline GT-R was launched in the late 60’s. However, it was only once the GT – R R32 was introduced did the series get recognition as a supercar. The R34 was a hit among drifters who loved the tire smoking action. This was a very unique model and only a few units went out to the world market. But it was very popular and much loved by sports car fanatics around the world.

Toyota Supra
The Japanese automotive industry enjoyed immense success in the late 80’s and 90s. It was during that period which Toyota decided to launch the magnificent Toyota Supra. The 6-cylinder engine of the Supra is known to be highly durable and has high horsepower.
