Buyer’s basics for the Porsche 993

The Porsche 993 is the fourth variant of the renowned Porsche 911. It was launched in 1993 as the successor for the revolutionary Porsche 964. Harm Lagaay and Tony Hatter designed the 993 by upgrading the standard 911 features. For the first time in three decades the car was made lower and elliptical headlights were added. Many people consider the Porsche 993 to be the best looking from the 911 variants.

Many racecar enthusiasts claim, the Porsche 993 as the best out of all 911 variants. It’s model that retains all the important elements. You get the air-cooled engine, with the right safety panels combined with a modern electric ABS system. The designers created two and four-wheel drive options as well as four styles to choose from – Coupé, Cabriolet and Targa. You also have choice of manual and automatic transmission.

Engine
The Porsche 993 has a durable and strong engine. The normally aspirated engine tends to be less resilient than the turbo engine. In most instances when you come across faults such needing new leads, its usually on cars that have been unused for long periods or with a low mileage. Few things to look out for are the oil leaks and the air conditioner’s pump belt, which has to be in the right tension. To maintain the 993 properly regular oil changes are essential. If you see smoke coming from the exhausts when starting after a long halt it could be a sign of worn put valves.

Gearbox
The Porsche 993 is available with a with speed transmission. The four speed automatic transmission came with a button that allowed the driver to change to manual transmission. The 993 gearbox is generally pretty solid but if the car is overused or under maintained, the clutch tens to wear out. Many collectors prefer the manual option and the tiptronic models are not much in demand.

Mileage
The demand for Porsche 993 is higher than the supply so you can’t be too particular. If you are looking for anything below 40,000km then it’s going to cost more. Since the 993 has a well designed durable engine, you don’t need to worry too much about the mileage. As long as the car has been well maintained, it’s going to be strong.

Interior
The 993 has fantastic interiors build so you don’t need to worry about it lasting long. Since 1996 plastic backs were added to the seats and the electric seat adjusters work smoothly.

If you are buying a Porsche 993, the main factor to consider is the condition of the car. Choosing the color and other specifications are secondary factors. If you are buying the car from an auto auction Japan, you can get a complete report from them. The same has to be followed if you are buying from a dealership of a direct buyer so that you receive car that is hassle-free. If you don’t have experience using similar vehicles, get some expert knowledge so that you make the right investment without regrets.
